Greek Pride was established in 1989 by Mrs. Pauline Vastis and Mrs. Maria Lyssikatos. The Troupe, with an average of 40 children, teens and adults participating each year, performs at the Church’s annual festival each August.
Currently under the direction of Andrea Vastis, along with co-directors Nancy Georgitsis and George Microulis, and dance and costume consultant Pauline Vastis, the troupe performs a wide variety of modern and traditional Greek dances.
From Athens to Sparta, from the Ballo to Zorba’s dance, Greek Pride performs a wide array of traditional and modern Greek dances in traditional ethnic costume. We provide our audience with a brief history of the dance and present the dance as intended, with our own Greek Pride flair and spirit known in Greek as "kefi".
Aside from the annual Greek Festival in Pawtucket, Greek Pride of RI has performed at numerous events and locations such as the Rhode Island Heritage Days festival, the Attleboro Museum Heritage festival, the RI Convention Center, Providence Waterplace Park, India Point Park and the Madeira Feast Grounds in New Bedford.
